What is Composting?

Composting is the act of managing the decomposition process of organic matter by controlling the ratio of food or yard waste, to moisture and air in the compost pile. The production of Compost requires specific temperature phases, including moderate and high heat phases exceeding 140°, that are followed by a curing period over several months. Those temperatures destroy harmful pathogens, weed seeds, and stabilize the organic matter.

❋ What is Compost?

Compost is a nutrient dense soil amendment that is the direct result of composting. It is oftentimes referred to as Black Gold.

❋ Benefits on Agriculture

Helps stabilize soil acidity & alkalinity, making essential nutrients more accessible to plants, slowly releasing them to feed plants over time. Compost also introduces beneficial bacteria and fungi that suppress soil-borne diseases, pathogens, and harmful pests.

Composting helps us to divert our organic waste from landfills- which produce harmful methane gas that seeps into our atmosphere and eventually contributes to the processes that result in climate change & global warming.

A STEP BY STEP Guide for Processing Food Scraps:

Chop Food Scraps (Greens) into 1” - 3” (inch) pieces.
Mix food scraps w/ 2x the amount of Browns(carbon-rich materials).
Ex: ( 1 bucket Greens + 2 buckets Browns)
Integrate into Bin #1 or Hotbox System
Layer lightly w/Browns or sprinkle with finished compost.
Clean tools & store away.

Please Remove all Stickers & Plastic labels.
